Our arrival in Ireland and 14 Days quarantining AKA Solitary confinement with Benefits: (written Weekend of 20th Feb 2021)

We knew things were changing at a rapid pace in terms of getting into Ireland, which in itself is a different story and a story for another day.

We arrived and were faced with a blistery cold Irish greeting. We dragged our luggage through the airport at 6 00am to meet up with our Hotel Shuttle.

In getting there, we did the necessaries at the front desk and proceeded up in the lifts to the second floor with all seven suitcases and hand luggage on our own to our 36 sq mtr home for the next 14 days ☹

We came prepared as possible, with all little life’s and important necessities. But believe us you can never think of everything, we have since learnt this and have adjusted as all SAFFAS do.

Some basics to bring with you (that you would never think you would need)

  • Sunlight Bar Soap to wash clothes, as laundry service can be lengthy and expensive
  • SA extender plugs so you can still charge and get power to basic appliances eg cell phone, hair dryer, tablets, laptops, Alexa if you have. Don’t forget take more than one travel adapter plug we took three.
  • Wash up liquid, small bottle of mouthwash, nail clippers, tweezers, small scissors.
  • Try and organize an Irish sim card ASAP.
  • Bring a spare Cell Phone so that you can add your Irish Sim so you don’t use your SA no for phone for local calls as roaming costs can be expensive.
  • Make sure you bring cash Euros for incidental costs , you can download the BUY ME APP to order extra groceries you may need and a few luxuries to make each day a little more  bearable.
  • A calendar is a nice idea to have to hang up so you can count down the days.

HIGHLIHTS AND ROUTINE (it is sooo important to form a routine) OF THE DAY.

Well, how do our days start……... .  .   .     .      .

1.) A phone call to order Breakfast, a continental is on the menu, this includes:

Cereal with a cup of milk,2 slices of toast, fruit juices, yoghurt and granola, a pastry

2.) Then it’s time for a workout after the breakfast has settled, with the Gym equipment that was sent up, and we all do a minimum of 1000 steps around the room.

3.) The rest of the day is filled up with looking for Jobs, looking for accommodation, looking for a car basically trying to set our lives up.

4.) Through the day Lunch and Dinner is ordered (as this is all included in the cost, so may as well take advantage.)

The food is good but you get tired of eating on que…, but it gives you something to look forward to.

Highlights of the time so far would be going for our COVID TESTS ???? , we got to leave the room for a total of 20 minutes YIPEEE !!!!!!

On one of the SA to Ireland Groups we met an amazing, friendly human Toni, finding someone so friendly an helpful is something we need to get used here. She made us feel so welcome and helped us with Sim Cards and some extra baked goodies which she went out of her way to FAST courier up to us . THANK – YOU TONI!!!!

Thank – You to the Admin team of the SA TO IRELAND Group, especially to Megan, Vicky, Bronwen and anyone else I might have left off, we could not have done this without your help and advice. YOU GUYS ROCK ???? , its wonderful having a group of people helping out.

You don’t feel alone…
