Memoirs of my trip with Qatar and Quarantine with Crowne Plaza Blanchardstown, Dublin.

I am currently on day 6 in Quarantine. I wasn’t able to write this earlier as all hell broke loose back home. My daughter and her boyfriend were fighting Covid and were victims of the dreaded Third Wave! As such, I have spent the last 5 days crying, praying and calling and texting friends, family and doctors to stay abreast of what’s happening back home. When I weighed up the pros and cons of leaving as the Third Wave was hitting, this scenario was definitely one of the worst that had crossed my mind. It has been hell! However, I am so grateful for technology which has enabled me to cope, and I am very grateful to the medical team at Crowne Plaza Blanchardstown, Dublin for offering me support and checking in on me daily.

So, let me write about my experience so that it may prepare others and hopefully make their journey as good, if not better, than mine!

Our arrival in Ireland and 14 Days quarantining AKA Solitary confinement with Benefits: (written Weekend of 20th Feb 2021)

We knew things were changing at a rapid pace in terms of getting into Ireland, which in itself is a different story and a story for another day.

We arrived and were faced with a blistery cold Irish greeting. We dragged our luggage through the airport at 6 00am to meet up with our Hotel Shuttle.

How we nearly missed the dreaded Covid nose invasion… but didn’t

Our travel experience on an Emirates repat flight to Dublin

So, the horrid Covid test which we were serious about avoiding at all costs in South Africa had now crept onto my “Eire to do this”  becoming a compulsory travel requirement for RSA citizens transiting through Dubai and onto the beautiful Emerald Isle that we were to call our new home country.

I really didn’t need more admin let alone the stress of now going back into 14 days of self-prescribed isolation pre our covid test but, if that’s the next hurdle thrown in our race to Eire then we will get it done.  All the information was uploaded timeously by our formidable admin group #dreammakers so all we had to do was cut down more trees and with our ink loaded modern day quills follow the advice on www.sa2eire.com and the process on the Emirates website.

The nose invasion experience…

After planning for two years, making a very painful and, personal decision

Due to the illness of a family member and in part the loss of parents we were very close to. Grown adult children who had their own lives to lead, one working in the Caribbean permanently, another planning to move across to the ROI with my two only grandchildren and Irish wife by 2021.

Another consideration, we as an aging couple had the choice in growing old in a society where life was not sacred, politics were frightening and the future was far from rosy, or move closer to enable access to a family member who will need more support and settling down for retirement. Then a girlfriend and neighbour passed away suddenly which made our mortality much more real..

The options that made the most sense in our circumstances were the UK or Ireland. My husband leaned toward going home to the UK, but the prospect did not appeal to me.

Ireland was a more rural pace of life gentler and seemed more affordable to go through the emigration process (remains to be seen).
