We arrived March 2019 with our 4 children.  We enrolled our children into the local school and they were starting September 2019. We always knew that our 2nd eldest son was different but never got a diagnosis in SA apart from being told that he was autistic.

Moving to Ireland with a child with special needs

We moved to Ireland at the beginning of 2019, my disabled son was 2 at the time, he was born with multiple conditions, myleomeningocele spina bifida, chiari malformation and neurogenic bladder and bowels, he also has acquired hydrocephalus and is paralyzed from the knees down.

Before we left we got letters from his neurosurgeon, therapists and pediatrician, our neurosurgeon also contacted Temple Street and organized a check up the day following landing in Dublin.

Keian's story so far...

We emigrated to Ireland in Sept 2019. My husband, myself, our 6yr old daughter Saphira and our almost 3year son, Keian (he has down syndrome)

Before we left I contacted the Down Syndrome Awareness group in Ireland to find out about schools and stuff. They said most schools accept special needs children (depending on what types of disability they have). I phoned for schools while still in SA, as soon as we knew when and where we were moving to.
